Murtha
The U.S. House of Representatives Ethics Committee, are being urged to exercise its authority and expeditiously open and announce an ethics investigation into the association of Representative John Murtha, Peter Visclosky and James Moran and any other representative who may be determined to be involved with the PMA "pay to play" scandal.
The reform groups include organizations such as Democracy 21, Common Cause, Public Citizen and U.S. PIRG. They are asking the Ethics Committee
to examine and determine whether these House members were influenced by campaign contributions and other financial benefits in providing earmarks for clients of the PMA Group, in violation of House ethics rules.
It is also asking the Ethics committee to investigate
...whether any other ethics violations may have occurred in their activities related to earmarks.
The letter points out that while there have been published reports that the Justice Department is investigating the PMA group,
...the House Ethics Committee has its own separate responsibililties in this matter. Only the Ethics Committe can make determinations about whether House ethic rules have been violated.
The letter to the Ethics Committee concludes
Our organizations urge the House Ethics Committee to expeditiously open and publicly announce an ethics investigation into the activities involving the PMA Group and Representatives Murtha,Visclosky and Moran and any other Representatives who the Committee determines have been similarily involved with PMA.
