On Jan. 20, “Entertainment Tonight” on ABC focused on the upcoming 2014 Grammys. “ET” host Rob Marciano opened the segment by stating on-air, “The music world’s party of the year is almost here.” The nightly info-tainment show went on to predict which artist would soar to the top at the 2014 Grammy Awards. “ET” called in Trends Expert, Shannon Cook, from Spotify, who declared on Monday:
We think that 2013 was the year of Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. All together, these guys’ music has been streamed more than half a billion times.
Jay Z leads the pack of 2014 Grammy nominations with 9; while Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, Kendrick Lamar, Justin Timberlake, and Pharrell Williams land in a four-way tie for second place with seven each. This could be the year of hip-hop, with four of the top five nominees coming from the genre. While Justin Timberlake is considered a pop star, he has heavy hip-hop influences. As predicted by "Forbes," the 2014 Grammys “will be a huge night for hip-hop.”
The annual Grammy Awards is a huge TV event that airs live on Sunday, Jan. 26 on CBS. The list of performers grows each day. On Jan. 20, “Us Weekly” revealed that Jay Z and wife Beyoncé would perform together. Other scheduled performers include Taylor Swift, Lorde, Macklemore, Paul McCartney, Katy Perry, Kendrick Lamar and Daft Punk.
For the first time ever, “ET” will team up with TV Guide Network for its first ever Pre-Grammy Awards broadcast. Hosts will include Nancy O’Dell, Rob Marciano, Brooke Anderson, Rosci Diaz, Elvis Duran and Joe Zee. The three-hour pre-Grammy celebration will air at 5 p.m. EST (4 p.m. CST) on TVGN. It will be followed by the national broadcast of the 56th Annual Grammy Awards, which airs live at 8 p.m. EST and PST on Sunday, Jan. 26 on CBS.
