The assault case pitting former Montreal Canadiens captain Vincent Damphousse against his estranged wife was back in Montreal court this morning.
It's going to trial.
After suggestions last time that the case of Alanna Henderson would be settled or go to trial, crown prosecutor Caroline Paquin says they set a June date despite ongoing negotiations.
"That's the usual process. We don't want to postpone again and again so a date has been set today," Paquin told reporters.
And Henderson's lawyer Suzanne Costom says they're not intense boardroom talks in the formal sense.
"We're looking at what's in the public interest and what's in the best interest of all the parties," Costom told reporters.
Henderson is charged with assault with a weapon and theft involving her estranged husband Vincent Damphousse in a March 29 incident. Damphousse is accused of assaulting Henderson that same day, as well five other times dating back to January 2008.
Costom said her client could not be present today.
Speaking publicly on behalf of her client for the first time since the charges were filed, Costom says the situation is sad and difficult for the former couple's children and everyone involved.
"She doesn't think that anyone regardless of social-economic status should be a victim of any kind of abuse in a marriage or in any aspect of their life."
Damphousse's case returns to court tomorrow.
