Esteemed author Philip Roth announces retirement (Photos)

One of America's most decorated authors has announced his retirement. Philip Roth's fiction has won nearly every prestigious award available to writers. His books always arrive with a certain celebration. Known for broaching sensitive topics and blurring the lines between reality and fiction, Philip Roth is an American fiction powerhouse who claims he will write no more.

Even though it seems we will have no more books from the great Roth, other "retired" authors have returned with careers and books at their normal pace. Stephen King, most notably, claimed he would retire after finishing his Dark Tower series, yet he has churned out about a dozen books since he not-so-officially retired.

Only time will tell if Roth's retirement will truly mean no more books, or if he will continue with his fiction the way Stephen King has. Either way, he leaves a great mark on American literature, and will surely continue to inspire. Check out the slideshow for some of Roth's greatest hits!
