The Esteban Carreras Covenant is a 2012 offering that is available in four vitolas: Robusto (5.5 x54 ), Toro (6 x 54), Double Corona (7 x 54) and Torpedo (6.25 x 54)
The wrapper leaf is a Habano Oscuro Hybrid and the binder and filler leaves are comprised of selected Nicaraguan tobaccos from Ometepe, Jalapa, and Esteli.
The cigar is a box press and has an oily wrapper that is reddish brown in color with small veins.
The cigar had a cedar and tobacco aroma on both the wrapper and foot. The cigar has a closed foot construction which is unusual for most cigars.
The Covenant has two large bands; a large black and silver band with the Esteban Carreras name and a silver lion in front of a light blue background. The lower band is white and silver with the word Covenant in black.
The cigar seemed to be somewhat soft when I ran my fingers along the body of the cigar before lighting it. The cold draw was firm due to the closed foot. It eased up once the cigar was burning but still had a slight resistance.
The cigar developed a firm, dark ash that lasted around an inch before dropping off. There was some spice on the exhale and the cigar produced a good amount of smoke.
The Esteban Carreras Covenant starts off mild in strength and body. It also has a clean finish. I was thinking things may pick up a bit as I smoked through this cigar but, for the most part this is a consistently mild cigar overall. While that is not a bad thing, it was not what I was expecting considering the blend of tobaccos.
