Before the parade of stars walk down the red carpet tomorrow at the Kodak Theatre to honor Hollywood’s best, another red carpet event took place this week, honoring black women and their achievements in Hollywood.

Essence magazine hosted the third annual Essence Black Women in Hollywood luncheon on Thursday, at the beautiful Beverly Hills Hotel. This year, Essence honored five extraordinary women for their talent, strength and longevity in the industry at the VIP luncheon.

Newcomer and ”Precious” star Gabourey Sidibe was presented the Best Breakthrough Award; and Avatar movie actress Zoe Saldana, was presented the Star to Watch Award. R & B singer, Mary J. Blige was presented the Songstress of the Year award; Queen Latifah, received the Power Award and renowned actress, Cicely Tyson was presented the Legends Award.

Although celebrity A-listers such as Taraji P. Henson, Viola Davis, Angela Bassett and Suzanne de Passe were present for the special event, the real buzz on the red carpet was the fashions.

Fashionista Mary J. Blige was chic in a one-shoulder turquoise dress, while mega stars Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett-Smith and Serena Williams opted for trendy beige hues for the luncheon. Stage and movie actress Anika Noni Rose, was stunning in a black and white dress trimmed with black lace. Hollywood legend, Cicely Tyson, was oh-so-pretty with her flowers and foliage look - one of this season’s hottest feminine trends.  To view the fashions click on the slide show and video below.

I did not like the garden theme displayed by one of my favorite drama queens. The photographer should not have posted that picture. :-(
