The new-look Los Angeles X will be on display Sunday as ESPN gets the ball rolling on its coverage of the second season of the Professional Bowlers Assn. League.

The X will meet the BROOKLYN STyLES in a quarterfinal match that ESPN will televise at noon at Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park, Mich.

Despite fielding a formidable five-man unit last year, the X failed to qualify for the four-team Elias Cup finals, which determined the league champion. It’s an eight-team league and all eight teams are returning.

The X appears to be more powerful this year with the addition of Mika Koivuniemi at No. 2 and E.J. Tackett at No. 5. Jason Belmonte will continue to be the X’s franchise player at the No. 1 position.

Returnees Parker Bohn III will bowl at No. 3 and Andres Gomez will be at No. 4.

Koivuniemi bowled at No. 2 last season for the Philadelphia Hitmen and Tackett will be competing in the league for the first time.

The PBA League’s second season will be held under a new format. The competitions will feature head-to-head series of single-elimination team matches that will include singles, alternate-ball doubles, Baker trio and Baker team formats.

It all leads to the Elias Cup championships that will be held April 6 at Woodland Bowl in Indianapolis, Ind.

The X’s opening singles match promises to be a shootout between Belmonte, the 2012-13 PBA player of the year, and the STyLES’ Sean Rash, the 2011-2012 player of the year.

The following Sunday, ESPN will televise a quarterfinal match between the defending Elias Cup champion New York City WTT KingPins and the Motown Muscle.
