Hip-hop star Drake has had a busy and eventful year thus far. Just a few months removed from hosting NBC's "Saturday Night Live," the Toronto-born rapper has been selected for another hosting gig. As Entertainment Tonight News reports on April 9, Drake has been selected as the host of the 2014 ESPY Awards.

Drake tweeted the news on Wednesday, expressing how honored he is to be the host of the awards show that honors the top athletes and sports moments of the year. The 27-year-old is an avid sports fan and his passion for sports is a reason he was chosen.

Drake is an unbelievably talented entertainer who truly has a passion for sports," said Connor Schell, vice president, ESPN Films and Original Entertainment. "We are thrilled to have him to host this year's show."

The rapper also has connections to sports teams and athletes. He has a close relationship with NFL prospect Johnny Manziel and was giving the job of the Toronto Raptors' global ambassador. He even stepped in the spotlight during this year's NCAA title game between the Kentucky Wildcats and Connecticut Huskies. According to a report by, when Drake was asked by a reporter after the game on how long he'd been a fan of the Wildcats, he answered "always."

Whether or not that is true can only be answered by Drake. But it is a known fact that he is a big sports fan, which is why he has been labeled as America's most famous fan. He is also becoming America's most hated fan, as he doesn't hold back from cheering on those he supports. For one night, however, he will be neutral, as he will be entertaining many athletes and general sports fans.

This is an incredible opportunity for me to combine two of my biggest passions-sports and performing," said Drake.

The 2014 ESPYS air Wednesday, July 16 at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN.
