During the In Memoriam segment of the Oscars 2012, Esperanza Spalding performed “What a Wonderful World” as Whitney Houston’s picture, along with others in the movie industry who have died in the past year, flashed on the big screen.

The In Memoriam portion of the Oscars is an Academy Awards staple. And this year, while some of the men and women who died received just a picture homage, others (like Elizabeth Taylor) were briefly seen in short clips from their more popular movies.
Whitney Houston’s homage was of the picture variety.
Still, Esperanza Spalding’s rendition of “What a Wonderful World” was pitch perfect for the tribute.
When the video of Esperanza’s performance becomes available (the Oscar sharks are shutting down bootleg Academy Award videos hosted on YouTube today), it will definitely be posted here.
