Finally, Americans can treat themselves to what others across the world have had for years--ESPA. The Acqualina Hotel on Sunny Isles Beach holds this great secret. This is the only ESPA in the United States, and close enough for us locals to visit regularly. There is no better way to experience this exceptional spa than through the TLC Series, their monthly event. TLC, in this case, stands for Treatments, Light Bites, and Cocktails.
From the moment that you drive up to Acqualina, you realize that you are about to enter another world. The lobby of the hotel speaks of opulence and grandeur. Once you leave the hotel lobby and step into ESPA's lobby, you know that you are in heaven. The decor of earth elements and dark wood is both classy and relaxing.
Your first stop is the women's changing area. This area also holds the Finnish sauna, sea glass steam room, and ice fountain. The lockers are the color of decadent fudge brownies and every amenity is provided.
You are then ushered into the Relaxation Room for a lavish, light buffet and a bar that features tea-infused cocktails, provided by Tea Forte. The tea is brewed in an interesting double decker pitcher, that provides a wonderful presentation. The iced white ginger pear flavor was refreshing and helped the relaxation. Here is where we first met Anna, a Miami auditor, who had come to TLC last month. She was so impressed that she bought 10 friends with her this month, celebrating 2 brithdays. They were enjoying white wine and canape
Soon the spa services begin and every 15 minutes, the time is announced, so that you know when to rotate through the treatment rooms. The treatments are amazing--from a soothing chair massage pool side to a mini facial to foot reflexology to salt/oil scrubs and mud in the changing area. These are just a fraction of the spa services offered daily at ESPA. Here is the treatment menu.
In the midst of all the women, sat Francoise, of Miami Shores. His wife had also been at TLC last month, while he sat at the hotel bar. She had such a great time, that when she returned this month, he came with her. He didn't seem a bit uncomfortable walking around in his spa robe and slippers. In fact, he relished in it. "I feel like Caesar," he said, while waiting for his next treatment.
There are some fantastic spas in the Miami area, but you would be hard pressed to find one better than ESPA. I was only able to experience a few of the treatments and the Foot Journey was my favorite. I left feeling both exhilarated and rejuvenated. Have you been there? Which treatment is your favorite? Let me know if you're planning to attend next month. I'll meet you there!
For more info: ESPA TLC events are held the first Thursday of every month. Each event has a theme, reflected in the signature cocktail and buffet fare. The October event is called Go Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness. $65 covers cocktails, buffet, treatments, and valet parking. Make reservations in advance as space is limited.
