Each day thousands of children face the deadly epidemic of child abuse. For most survivors, child abuse is a lifetime of unspoken, emotional scars. As hard as it is to believe, some people are naive to the words child abuse and a large majority of those same people believe abuse only happens to those in poverty stricken homes and to uneducated people, but the truth is abuse does not discriminate.

Today KRQE.COM reported that the Albuquerque Police Department say "the parents of the two young children put them in a very dangerous situation"

Albuquerque Police said it all began when an undercover detective answered an ad for an escort that left Jodeci Smith charged with "abandonment or abuse of a child and conspiracy to commit a second degree felony." Her boyfriend, Ruben Lave is facing the same charges as well as additional charges of "promoting prostitution."

According to the criminal complaint, "the undercover cop met up with Smith at the Ramada on Yale and Gibson" it was then "Smith offered a sexual act in exchange for money and that’s when cops moved in to make the arrest." Smith allegedly agreed to give the undercover detective 30 minutes of oral sex for $100, the complaint states.

According to police, Lave was found waiting inside the car that Smith pulled up in. In addition to Lave in the car there were their two toddlers, ages 3 years old and 1 year old. When authorities asked the couple about their two children being in the backseat of the car they said "they didn’t have a sitter." Police were also concerned the toddlers were sitting in the hot car without air conditioning.

Police say "Lave let Smith post the escort ad from his phone and takes some of the money for himself."

The couple appeared in court early Saturday morning where a judge told Lave what he thought of the situation.

“Given the nature of the allegations and this gentleman’s history and specifically allegation that children were exposed to this type of alleged conduct, I’m going to set the bond at $15,000 cash or surety.” Judge Daniel Ramczyk said.
