Two escaped murderers have been caught after they forged documents that had them walking as free men from a jail in Orlando, Fla. On Oct. 19, Wesh.com reported that the two men were found in Panama City, Fla. just 80 miles from the jail they escaped from. Joseph Jenkins and Charles Walker were arrested Saturday at the Coconut Grove Motor Inn.
"Panama City police got a tip two days ago that the two men were staying on Panama City Beach. On Saturday, they tracked them to a motel, surrounded the room and ordered the fugitives to come out," Wesh.com reports.
The escaped murderers were caught several weeks after their escape. Police surrounded them at the motel and they both came out with their hands over their heads, not putting up any kind of fight. They were both scheduled in court on charges related to their escape this morning.
As previously reported, both men were serving life sentences convicted on murder charges for two separate incidents. The prison followed protocol and received documents that ordered the release of both men. Said documents were forged. The prison was checking to see if any other convicts were released "by mistake." An investigation into how the paperwork was forged is set to begin shortly.
The escaped murderers were caught thanks to people who called in tips on their whereabouts. Authorities are pleased to have received the public's help in this case.
