Go into your local smoothie joint and spend a couple minutes looking at the ingredients in each smoothie. Will it surprise you that some smoothies are more caloric than a milkshake? Smoothie joints load up their drinks with unnecessary ingredients, such as sorbets, frozen yogurts and fruit juice; completely masking the natural flavors of the fruit. This rendition of the piña colada will put your craving at ease and take you on a tropical getaway.
The use of light coconut milk lightens up this typically caloric drink and lends to a wonderful nutty flavor. The frozen pineapple chunks give the drink a smooth and creamy texture. In addition to using greek yogurt instead of the standard sorbet or ice cream, the tartness from the yogurt lends the drink a slight sweet and sour contrast. Greek yogurt also provides a punch of protein that makes this smoothie not only a tasty treat for a summer day, but also a satisfying one that will keep your hunger at bay.
