'Escape from New York' remake is finally happening

The long feared remake of John Carpenter’s 1981 film “Escape from New York” is finally happening.

Producer Joel Silver (“Batman and Robin”) and Studio Canal are setting up a new trilogy, and they are starting with an origin story.

The first film is said to be similar in tone to “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” in how it sets up the films that follow, and now the hunt for a leading man to headline this franchise is underway.

Collider speculated yesterday that Liam Neeson (“The A-Team”) might be up for the roll considering his history with those production companies, but I think he is a little too old to front a franchise like this.

I personally would like to see Gerard Butler or Jeremy Renner gets the gig considering both are pretty tough guys, and can kick a lot of ass.
