Not that anyone in New Orleans needs a reason to don a costume - of their favorite superhero, or otherwise - but when there's money to win for one's favorite charity then all the better.
Kicking off Thursday, May 22, with a party in New Orleans, the 3rd Annual Escape for Good charity race will take place over Memorial Day weekend. Participants form a team of some of their craziest and most heroic pals, everyone dresses up as superheroes, and then the teams travel from New Orleans to Detroit, Michigan with no money in their pockets - all to raise money for the charity of their choice - and not to mention to have one heck of an adventure as well. The winning team will be awarded $20,000 for their charity of choice, and the runner up - $5,000.
“When we started Escape for Good three years ago, it was all about creating a charitable event that didn’t involve large production budgets, but instead harnessed the power of the internet and social media to impact people’s lives in a positive way,” explained Escape founder Rocco Gardner in a press release. “It’ll be fun watching as teams come up with creative ways to make the journey from New Orleans to Detroit. We are excited that the Seminole Tribe of Florida are joining us in our efforts again this year and wish to thank them for their continued support.”
Thirty-six hours, 1,000-plus miles - now this will be one memorable Memorial Day weekend!
