People have been searching the Internet feverishly all day for the "uncut" version of Erykah Badu's new video called 'Window Seat', because in it, the singer strips completely naked as she walks down a street of unsuspecting-looking spectators.
But the truth is, there is no uncut version. It was always Badu's intention to pixelate her naked body at the end, when she is shot and falls lifelessly to the ground.
Most who have written about the video have focused on the nudity and missed the point of it entirely - the video alludes to the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Through her nudity, the singer attempts to emphasize that all those who try to speak for themselves and their rights are not tolerated by a huge section of the society. That just might stir up more controversy than the nudity in the weeks to come.
'Window Seat' is mesmerizing to watch, and Badu's voice and ability to push buttons has never been better. The only question is, why did she make us wait so long to release a new album?
If you haven't seen it yet, here's the official video of 'Window Seat' (watch carefully for subtle similarities to the JFK assassination, and listen to Badu's commentary about society at the end).
