The style world has been buzzing since this morning, when news broke that singer, artist, and style icon Erykah Badu would be the newest face to front Givenchy's most recent campaign. Riccardo Tisci, whom has been regarded as one of the most creative and innovative designers within the past couple of year is also no stranger to featuring models of color in his campaigns and runway shows. In regards to casting Erykah Tisci says:
“Erykah, she’s an icon—come on!” ---“What I want to do with my advertising campaign is spread the love. Already now it’s been three seasons that I’ve been using people that express something—they are great artists, or beautiful women, or stylish women, or models that I really believe in. It’s kind of a family portfolio.”
The collection, which takes inspiration from both Japanese and African influences is a little more conservative (without being the least bit stuffy) than previous collections which most notably featured the hot house florals, crew neck sweaters, and bold animal prints. Intricate cuts and beautiful draping in jersey dresses and pants suits showcased yet another side to Tisci's genius.
