Crossdressing. Edited by Rachel Kramer Bussel. Cleis Press. $14.95 (USD).

When you start reading Crossdressing, you are not really sure what to expect. Is this a book about transvestites? Gender play? Are these gay characters? Hetero? Or maybe something in-between?

The answer is yes. Crossdressing, edited by Rachel Kramer Bussel and published by Cleis Press, explores the familiar extremes of crossdressing and introduces layers hereto thought non-existent. Reading this book is not only a sexual journey, although that it greatly is, it is also an informative experience, an eye-opener...and a tease. After reading this collection, even the previously uninitiated will feel tempted to explore their other side or have their partner do so.

The reader is lured into the characters' psyches, never to be the same again. You are immersed into these characters' worlds; you feel their desires, their excitement and sometimes their pain. This collection of short stories demonstrates the ascension of contemporary erotica.

At times titillating, exploratory and amusing and without fail very, very sexy, the reader is teased into taking this experience into their physical world.

From the first story, Temporary by Tulsa Brown, you are transported somewhere unfamiliar to most. The story is dirty and sweet--a contrast of characters and mood that appeals to both your baser and astral natures.

If you like your erotica dirty (and who doesn't?) Ryan Field's Down the Basement, The Sweetheart of Sigma Queer by Simon Sheppard and Higher and Higher by T. Hitman, are all excellent stories. Each story is very well written and shows amazing depth while exciting and astonishing you at the same time.

Crossdressing has all kinds of stories, containing all kinds of characters. Halloween by Helen Boyd leisurely builds up to some delicious and climactic kink. Stan Kent's Phone Fatale is also a delightfully kinky romp.

Apart from stories about single people, one-night stands and horny little sluts, there are also some great couples' stories. I Need a Man by Andrea Dale explores the fun you can have with your lover when trying new things. Michelle, Ma Belle by Marcy Sheiner also demonstrates how exciting monogamous sex can be, as does Rachel Kramer Bussel's A Cute Idea

What surprises and arouses is the tactile nature of these stories. One would think that playing reverse dress-up is a purely visual stimulant, but when reading the descriptions of how a character experiences the feel of silk panties or a faux penis, you realize that the appeal of crossdressing goes much deeper than the eye can see.

If you are already into gender play or crossdressing, you should definitely read this book. If you have not wondered what it would be like to flip the switch, you should still definitely read this book. Every story stimulates and educates.
