The Erotic Heritage Museum celebrates its two-year anniversary with an innovative fundraising exhibition entitled, “Hung In Vegas” on Saturday, September 11, 2010. EHM’s Curator, Dr. Laura Henkel announced, “We are very excited to premiere ‘Hung In Vegas’ which celebrates its mission of sex education through the arts. The exhibition presents current sexual health issues with humility, compassion, and sophistication.”
From the website: "The Erotic Heritage Museum is dedicated to the belief that sexual pleasure and fun are natural aspects of the human experience, that such pleasure must be made available to all, and that our individual sexuality belongs to each of us."
Artists Nick Karras (whose award-winning documentary film, Petals, explores the nuances and magic of the female vulva), Michael Grecco, Steve Diet Goedde (see the slideshow for a sample of his acclaimed fetish photography) Michael Mueller, Todd VonBastiaans, Max Lightbender, KD Matheson and Princess Anne will exhibit their work at EHM. Several additional artists will exhibit their work throughout the year, making “Hung in Vegas” a must see all year-round. Proceeds from the sale of artwork will benefit the Erotic Heritage Museum’s mission to support sex education through the arts.
The evening’s celebrations will include the opening of “The Fithian Hartman Library”, an academic research library dedicated to the field of human sexuality available to the public. Guests will be able to experience interactive exhibitions such as, “Faces of Courage” sponsored by Aid for Aids in Nevada (AFAN), an exhibition whereby plaster face casts share their experiences of living with HIV for more than fifteen years. Indulge in the retrospective of “The History of Prostitution”, an ongoing exhibition, which will sponsored by Desiree Alliance, an advocacy group protecting the rights of sex works. Planned Parenthood is sponsoring an exhibition entitled, “Creative Contraception.” EHM collaborates with many nonprofit organizations to promote sexual rights as human rights.
Aside from erotic artwork, classic adult film star turned sex educator and advocate, Nina Hartley, will receive an Honorary Doctorate degree from the Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality. Insurgo Theater Movement will present an interpretation of Salome. The Sin Sity Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence will be hosting the evening’s events. Supporting sex education through the arts... how perfect is that? I believe that we should be open about our sexuality.... Pleasure should be available to all who want to embrace it!
