Ermacora Pinot Bianco Rocks the Glass

The 2012 Ermacora Pinot Bianco Colli Orientali del Friuili is a delightful Italian white wine, selling for under $20 a bottle.
Patricia Decker

The 2012 Ermacora Pinot Bianco Colli Orientali del Friuli is one incredible wine, packing a punch in the flavor and value categories. Truly OMG, this white wine is fragrant and the palate is dynamite, with depth and concentration, balance and finesse. This outstanding wine retails under $20 but drinks for twice the price, an incredible find to stock up on for summer.

Pinot Bianco, aka Pinot Blanc, is a mutation of Pinot Noir, and produces wine similar to Chardonnay, with medium to full body, good acidity, a creaminess in the mid palate, and with some light mineral notes. Colli Orientali del Friuli is located in Northeast Italy, and produces some of Italy’s most prestigious white wines. The terraced vineyards on rolling hills, with mineral rich soil, and sheltered climate yield a crisp, dry wine. This DOC quality Pinot Bianco weaves delicate aromas of white flowers and bergamot orange with flavors of ripe apples, pears, and citrus into a textured, juicy wine. Unoaked, with an initial mineral tang when first sipped, it becomes rich in the mouth, and continues to echo it’s presence with a very long finish. Although the alcohol comes in at a robust 14%, it’s well balanced. The Pinot Bianco pairs well with grilled chicken, seafood, egg dishes, soups, and light appetizers, but shines on its own, with no food at all.

The 2012 Ermacora Pinot Bianco Colli Orientali del Friuli can be found at K & L Wines in Hollywood, and currently sells for $15.99.
