Those little bundles of joy grow so fast and you want to capture as many precious moments as possible, but you don't want to spend a fortune doing it.  There are many places in Erie to get baby pictures done, but in this series of articles we're going to look at Portrait Innovations, JCPenny's and Sears.   We'll focus on Portrait Innovations in this article.

Location: Peach Street, by the Verizon Store, up on the hill

Personal Background: We took our daughter to get pictures done here when she was three months old

The Good

  • People were very friendly and helpful
  • We got a free one-page calendar because we had to wait longer than 10 minutes for our appointment
  • When our baby wouldn't smile for a few shots, they double teamed her and got some great reactions
  • The pictures turned out beautifully
  • You could use multiple outfits
  • When the baby got hungry, they didn't mind at all that I stopped and nursed her.  The photographer even held up a blanket so I could have a little privacy.
  • You get to go home with your pictures.  They are printed in about 10 minutes!
  • It seemed like you could combine deals.  We got the big package for $9.95 (10x13, 8x10, 2 5x7s, etc) along with some other specials.
  • You could switch out sheets -- instead of getting more wallets, you could opt for an 8x10
  • You could sit in chairs to pick out your pictures (a comfort option and a sales advantage).
  • There was a lot of creativity to the shots.  They had a LOT of props and super cute backgrounds.

The Bad

  • Things did get a little pricey.  You start out with EVERY photo they took of your charming baby in the cart and then eliminate. Based on the $756 price it started out with, whittling the package down to $130 didn't seem so bad...at the time.
  • I wasn't really clear on the pricing.  You kind of pick what you want and the price adjusts accordingly.  The salesperson wasn't real clear on how much different pictures were, they just spoke in "packages" (which again, wasn't really clear).
  • They were a little pushy.  I kept trying to eliminate photos (not that they weren't adorable), and the sales person kept saying... "Now if you get below this mark, you won't get the special portrait or you won't get the CD."  It did seem like we got a lot for our money, but we did spend A LOT of money.

The Ugly

  • The Final bill, but certainly not the pictures!
