Erica Mena, one of the stars of VH1’s “Love & Hip Hop,” is due to release her first book in just a few weeks. In it, she shares some deep, dark family secrets, writing her mother was “a real hustler” and her father was “in the drug game,” according to a March 19, 2013 The Box Houston report.
Excerpts released from Erica’s memoir, entitled “Underneath It All,” give the reader a unique glimpse into her childhood and her life so far.
According to Bossip, in one excerpt from the book, she notes her story will not include gossip about her fellow cast members or other people or celebrities she’s encountered over the years.
“…Sorry to disappoint you but you’re not going to find none of that in this book,” she writes.
“If you can’t respect my hustle then f*** you, it’s that simple… if you’re interested in getting to know who I really am then I suggest you get comfortable; make yourself a drink, roll a blunt, do whatever you need to do to relax because by the time I’m done, you’re going to need it,” her book says.
Erica also writes about how her mother was pregnant with her as she served time in prison for “trying to provide for her children and her unborn child.” She tells the story of how her cousin, or her “father’s nephew,” gave her mother a package and told her to deliver it to a specific location. When her mother complied and made the delivery, she was caught up in a police raid.
In addition, Erica’s memoir says her father was “in the drug game” and was “very cheap.” She writes he made her mother “struggle more than she had to…”
In another excerpt Erica reveals she wishes she could have stayed safe and protected in her mother’s womb, “listening to her angelic voice sing me to sleep.”
“Underneath It All” is slated to hit book shelves on April 1.
