What inspired you to title your new album PURE?
We toyed with a lot of titles. But I really felt like this CD was a re-birth for me musically. I wanted the audience to know they were hearing me in love with what I’m doing. I just got married last year, so I’ve never been so happy to be making the music that means something to my life. I had a dream about being in water and coming up for air and feeling like a new me. We shot the cover photo at 7am in a pool overlooking New York City. Once we saw the photo.. The title was obvious to us all.
What is your most personal track on the new CD and why?
The song that’s closest to my heart is “Just Trust.” It’s actually a song written for two older people. My mother, and the well known British artist, William Turnbull. I wrote this song with Bill’s son, Johnny Turnbull in my most favorite place, London, England. We started out writing a pop song, but the mood of the session was in a precarious place because Johnny’s dad was in the beginning throws of Alzheimer’s disease. My mother at that point had already been dealing with it for 3 years, so I was well versed on the subject. Johnny was so upset, that when I went back to my hotel that night the words just came spilling out. It’s just a little poem for my mom that I wanted him to be able to give to his father. The whole song is reflected in the line, “Have faith in us, Just Trust, Let your doves fly free…”
My mom is still alive, fighting the good fight, but sadly, Johnny’s Dad died at the end of last year. His passing made the song all the more special to all of us.
What is your favorite song on the CD and why?
My Favorite song is…. “All Over.” After many years of writing, singing, collaborating, producing and listening to music, I finally found my voice in a genre that is my perfect musical marriage. Dance music speaks through me, in the way I want to be heard. Tim Lefebvre (co-writer) and my producer Rod Carrillo are brilliant at hearing sounds that make me feel alive. That’s a gift right there. At the point this track came together, I was really coming to terms with that fact I just didn’t want to sing anything else but dance music. I was a professional dancer, I am still a dancer, and my soul will always dance. It’s All over me.
How did you collaborate on PURE with other songwriters and producers?
I fly a lot. I go to them. I spend time with them. Everyone I write with is a personal friend. In truth, I am probably one of the luckiest artists out there. I actually WORK all the time doing music with people I really enjoy. If I have a gig somewhere, I take an extra couple of days and write. I go to Europe at least twice a year to write, because a large part of me still resides there. I once went to Argentina alone for 12 days and holed up in a hotel to just be inspired by the surroundings. I wrote 12 songs, in 12 days. Finding your voice is a journey…its takes a lot of exploration.
Is there a music video planned for a lead single? Which song will be the lead single?
Oh yes…definitely a video. Were already in pre-production. The lead single is “All Over” I can’t say whom the director is until contracts are signed, but I know who I want to do it. I’m really excited. I recently spoke with my management about the storyboard and everyone was buzzing. This will be a new departure for me on film. Something I’ve never done before.
Do you have any upcoming tour dates scheduled to support the release?
Were still in the planning stages, but yes, right now it looks like a short U.S. tour and then off to Europe. I put together my first all Electronic Band to be onstage with me. The sound is really crazy good. It’s like a mixture of Rock Band, Electronic Club Sounds, and Soulful vocals. We’ve added projections and a light show with everything. It’s going to blow everyone’s mind. We did a little preview in New York a few weeks ago, and the crowd went off. It’s going to be fun. Once everything is set, the performances list will be on the website.
