Eric Hill, a "Bachelorette" contestant, died on April 23 following a paragliding accident over the weekend. According to MSN, Hill went paragliding in Utah when his parachute malfunctioned. According to United Fire Authority Battalion Chief Brian Anderton, Hill's parachute actually collapsed and he plummeted toward the ground. Surprisingly, Hill did not die on impact. He was rescued from a hillside and transported to a nearby hospital.
Although the rescue was difficult, Hill was alive when he arrived at the hospital. He was in critical condition and doctors were forced to put him into a medically induced coma. He remained in a coma from Sunday until today. It is unclear whether or not he died "naturally" or if it was a decision made by his family -- most of whom were by his side at the time of his passing.
Eric Hill will be on "The Bachelorette" in May next month when Andi Dorfman's season airs. According to Us Weekly, Eric had the very first one-on-one date with Dorfman. While many people were concerned that this tragedy occurred while Eric was still with Andi -- or filming the show -- he was not. Apparently (spoiler alert) Hill was sent home well before the accident.
"Bachelorette" Andi Dorfman hasn't tweeted anything about Hill, likely because she isn't supposed to be using social media while filming the show. Host of the series Chris Harrison did express his condolences, however, saying that Hill would be "missed." It sounds like Hill was well-liked in the "Bachelor" house. Although "Bachelor Nation" has yet to get to know Hill, many will be watching with heavy hearts come May 19.
Eric Hill's "Bachelorette" experience may or may not have been short-lived. Without reading spoilers, it's hard to say whether or not he and Andi had a good connection. The only thing that suggests that the two hit it off is that Andi chose him for the first one-on-one -- but after that, it's all up in the air. Regardless, one can imagine how devastating this must be for those associated with the show who got to know Hill over the past several weeks.
Eric's sister Karen Tracy posted a message on Facebook about her little brother. "Eric shared his final journey with us this morning as all his immediate family were able to be at his side when he passed away," Hill's sister wrote in part. "It is hard to think of life without his bright spark, but we know he is on to new adventures. We look forward to carrying on his legacy here and greeting him joyfully again someday," she continued.
Of course Eric Hill was so much more than a "Bachelorette" contestant -- and his sister has been sharing some wonderful memories of a man that seemed well-rounded, grounded, and great.
