Eric Gordon trade rumors indicate that the New Orleans Hornets have had troubles finding a trade partner. A Gordon trade may have been able to take place if he were healthy, but as it has been obvious that he is playing through injuries, other teams have balked at acquiring him. According to a report from late Wednesday (Feb. 20), one league source has even stated that "nobody wants him."
Gordon has been unable to play back-to-back games since returning from knee issues earlier in the season. He is also going through a hand injury that has limited his action and affected his shooting stroke. This has combined to really lower his stock around the league and that could indicate that he will be with the Hornets until at least the offseason.
In the first season of a four-year, $58 million contract, Gordon has played in only 19 games for the New Orleans Hornets. He is averaging 29.5 minutes, 16.6 points, and 1.1 steals per game. Gordon also missed another game on Wednesday night against the Cleveland Cavaliers, which could have been a way to show a national audience how good he can be on the court. That didn't happen; forcing his trade value even lower as the NBA trade deadline approaches.
There had been quite a few Eric Gordon trade rumors floating around and it included interest coming from the Golden State Warriors. There are likely a few teams that would be willing to take on his contract in a salary dump, but the Hornets want to bring back assets in any deal involving Gordon. Acquiring him as part of the Chris Paul trade has forced the team to make careful decisions about his future with the team.
In the end, if Gordon can get healthy in the offseason, he will serve as probably the best offensive player on the New Orleans Hornets next year. The team is getting better on a nightly basis and Gordon is good enough to help get them into the postseason. For fantasy basketball owners, Gordon staying in New Orleans is a good thing, especially in keeper leagues. He will continue to play through injury this season and could get back to full-strength in March.
