For now, Bulldog Nation has lost its radio voice— attorney Eric Deters, also known to his fans as the “bulldog.” On Tuesday, Clear Channel management informed Deters that he will no longer be working for WLW 700.
His profile and blog have since been removed from the company website. Deters was terminated after a video blog appeared on Deter's Facebook page of him saying "if you want to conquer an African nation, send white women and pot.”
Deters was scheduled to work last weekend but was told not to go on air until after the controversy had time to settle.
His career with WLW began after he began calling in reports to the show in 2008 about his opposition to a new jail in Independence.
Last year, Deters spent time as the 9 p.m. to midnight host. He was then cut back to working weekends and occasionally filling in for Bill Cunningham.
In his defense, Deters said the video wasn’t supposed to be posted. He found out about the post after receiving a call from a friend. In the video, Deters mentions black members of his flag football team are with white women and smoke pot.
Deters said the video wasn’t racially motivated. It was a joke he has with his African-American flag football friends.
Although he will no longer be on WLW, he may soon get another radio gig this year. Jamey Schleue, station manager for “Real Talk 1160” has spoken to Deters about a 5-7 p.m. weekday program.
The station is owned by Christian Broadcasting System—a Flint, Michigan based company.
In addition to his radio role, he is also known for his strong opinions and representing several high profile cases. He once represented a fired school teacher who was accused of having intercourse with a 16-year-old-student. He also represented a Cincinnati Bengals cheerleader in her suit against a website for libel.
