Eric Church continued to forge his own musical path in 2013 and the results were ultra successful. Although the singer-songwriter planned for a low-key year to focus on his fourth studio album, he managed to acquire several significant milestones. Take a glimpse at the highlights of Eric Church's career this year.
"The Only Way I Know" - Eric collaborated with two of music's biggest record sellers, Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan, on the song, "The Only Way I Know." The tune, featured on Jason Aldean's "Night Train" album, topped the Billboard Country Airplay Chart on February 16, 2013. The trio scored a pair of awards for their efforts, too. The ACM's honored the song with the Vocal Event of the Year trophy, while fans named it Collaborative Video of the Year during June's CMT Music Awards.
"Caught in the Act" - On April 9, 2013, Eric released his "Caught in the Act" collection. The tracks were captured during a two-night stint at the Tivoli Theatre in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The live disc debuted at number three on the Billboard Country Albums chart. A video for "Over When It's Over" was released to coincide with the project promotion.
"Like Jesus Does" - Amid the performances packed with flashy backdrops and choreographed numbers, Eric Church's performance at the ACM Awards was a welcomed change of pace. His acoustic rendition of "Like Jesus Does" featured gorgeous background vocals by Valerie June. A well-deserved standing ovation immediately followed the intimate showcase.
"Chief" - The Academy of Country Music honored Eric Church with an award for Album of the Year in April. "Chief" beat works from Taylor Swift, Luke Bryan, Carrie Underwood, and Little Big Town for the win. This victory makes "Chief" the twelfth album in country music history to receive an award for Album of the Year by both the ACM and CMA organizations.
"No Shoes Nation" - Kenny Chesney selected Eric Church as an opening act during his "No Shoes Nation" tour. Kenny and Eric, along with the Eli Young Band and Kacey Musgraves, played to capacity crowds in football stadiums all summer long. The tour grossed $90, 932, 957 according to Billboard.
Lollapalooza - The annual festival held in Chicago attracted thousands of passionate music fanatics to Grant Park. Acts such as Mumford & Sons, The Killers, and Nine Inch Nails headlined the 2013 bill. Eric Church was the lone country artist invited to appear at Lollapalooza. His 12-song set drew a diverse crowd of fans and was well-received by critics.
"Rolling Stone" Honor - In July, "Rolling Stone" magazine named Eric Church as one of the fifty best live acts. Taylor Swift joined Eric as the only two performers from the country genre to make the cut. Eric landed at number forty; Bruce Springsteen topped the tabulation. Read more here.
Gold and Platinum - Four of Eric Church's singles: "Like Jesus Does," "Drink In My Hand," "Hell on the Heart," and "Creepin" were certified gold by the RIAA. Achieving platinum status were "Smoke A Little Smoke," and "Homeboy." "Springsteen" achieved double platinum certification in 2013.
