Only three episodes in and we already have a change in the opening credits. I do believe that that is a new record.
This episode focuses largely on Vincent as he flees the authorities. Something is going on with his eyes. They always appear to be closed. I went back and checked the previous episode and, sure enough, it was always the case. As to why I just noticed it now, I don't know, but it's still weird.
As Vincent flees, he comes across Pino, an autoreiv that looks like a little girl. He recognizes her as he had come across her before and she starts to tag along, even going so far as to help him find ways of escaping various predicaments. It's a good thing that she's a robot because at one point, she stumbles over something and flat out faceplants into the ground. A fall like that would've been brutal on a real kid. Maybe they were going for some sort of morbid slapstick? It seems like it would be out of place, but I could see how that could elicit some chuckles from viewers.
Re-L, after several attempts, finally manages to get a hold of Vincent and sets up a meeting. He's hesitant, but goes along. Sure enough, she's not all that happy to see him and is more intent on finding answers that he can't seem to provide.
Just as the authorities start to bear down on them, a hatch opens and apparently the city is in the sky. Yeah, I'm pretty sure that they never established that so it came out of left field for me. Last I checked, the domed city was on the ground, so I don't know what was going on there.
The episode ends as Vincent leaps from the ledge and begins plummeting downward. It was an odd cliffhanger, but it was a pretty dramatic moment for him, so I'll give it that.
This episode wasn't quite as good as its predecessor, but it had more good elements than bad. I would've liked to have seen more of Re-L, as she seems to be one of the stronger elements of this show, but she was in it enough. One has to wonder where things go for her from here.
"Ergo Proxy" is streaming on Hulu, however, due to the mature content, an account is needed in order to watch it. The series is also available for purchase on DVD.
