Erebos, God of the Dead is one of the newest "Theros" spoilers revealed today Sept. 5, 2013 from Wizards of the Coast's upcoming expert "Magic: The Gathering" expansion set in an article by Adam Styborski on DailyMTG.com. Erebos, God of the Dead joins Thassa, Nylea, Purphoros, and Heliod as one of the five main gods of "Theros" and can have a devastating impact in the right match.

Erebos, God of the Dead is bonkerz, with a Z. Stopping your opponents from gaining life takes away one of the must crucial aspects of what makes so many current staples just so good. Let's take a quick look at some of the cards Erebos, God of the Dead hoses:
- Lifegain decks that try to abuse Path of Bravery, Angelic Accord, Archangel of Thune, and Souldmender.
- That cute Bubbling Cauldron deck with Bogbrew Witch and Festering Newt loses a bit of its appeal.
- No more infinite life from Boros Reckoner, Angelic Skirmisher, and Boros Charm.
- Lifegain from "enters the battlefield" creatures like Centaur Healer, the triggered ability of Trostani, Selesnya's Voice, and activated abilities of commonly played creatuers like Deathrite Shaman and Scavenging Ooze.
- Heavily played instants in control decks such as Dramatic Rescue, Sphinx's Revelation, and Warleader's Helix.
- Erebos neuters extort decks running Blind Obedience, Crypt Ghast, Syndic of Tithes, Basilica Guards, and all other extort cards.
Unlike Havoc Festival Erebos, God of the Dead comes down early, especially with help from Sylvan Caryatid or Elvish Mystic.
One card in particular this author is looking forward to abusing with Erebos, God of the Dead is Alms Beast.
Erebos, God of the Dead can help you gain a massive amount of card advantage for a small investment of mana and life. While its activation cost is higher than Greed, you'll be able to recoup your life loss with cards like Gray Merchant of Asphodel and Corrupt, allowing you to eat through your deck and overwhelm your opponent with answers and threats.
Although Erebos, God of the Dead is indestructible, its massive toughness of seven will help you absorb some of the damage from large creatures with trample such as Kalonian Hydra or Garruk's Horde. Oh yes, it also attacks for five.
