As the 2013 English Premier League schedule hits full stride, fans have welcomed many stars back from long-term injury. Unfortunately, a few big names, such as Wayne Rooney, remain sidelined. Players like John Terry, Shinji Kagawa, Petr Cech, Benoit Assou Ekotto, and Scott Parker have all returned from tough injuries since the New Year began, and have given their teams a big boost as they look towards the rest of the season.
On Sunday, Manchester City welcomed back defender Aleksandar Kolarov from a hip injury that saw him miss five matches, while Sergio Aguero missed another match for City with a hamstring injury. Aguero is expected to return next weekend.
Liverpool saw the return of forward Fabio Borini after missing nearly three months with a foot injury, while Olivier Giroud passed a late fitness test for Arsenal after it looked like the striker would miss the match against City with a knee injury.
Unfortunately for the Gunners, Mikel Arteta will be out until February 2nd with a hamstring injury.
Manchester United saw the return of defender Phil Jones from a knee injury, but also watched defender and captain Nemanja Vidic and midfielder Ashley Young leave the match against Liverpool with knee injuries. Wayne Rooney continues to be sidelined with a knee injury, but is expected to return to practice midweek.
With some huge matchups this weekend including Manchester United vs. Liverpool and Manchester City vs. Arsenal, there was much to talk about from the playing standpoint. Fortunately for the fans, there were no new major injuries to ponder as teams continued to fight for points.
