Episode 310 certainly left us with a cliffhanger and as always it also left us wanting more.
Rick seems to have gone farther off the deep end and follows Lori outside the prison gates, but she’s not there of course because she’s only in his head. He spent the majority of the episode wandering around outside the gate looking for her. Hershel tried to get him to come back inside and talk about it, but he was too far gone believing that Lori had some sort of message for him.
Glenn was also experiencing his own level of crazy, but in an angry and vengeful sort of way. He has a lot of rage aimed at the Governor and Merle for beating him and for making Maggie get undressed. Behind the rage is guilt for getting Maggie nearly raped. He wants to retaliate, but Hershel talks him out of it. He does take a truck to check the perimeter of the prison to find out how the walkers are getting into the tombs and to make sure it is properly fortified but we never actually see where Glenn went.
The Governor goes to see Andrea and tells her that he wants her to be in charge for the moment. He also goes to Milton and asks him to keep an eye on Andrea while he is away. You can tell that he is up to something.
Merle and Daryl try their hand at being on their own and it seems that over time with the group that Daryl has gone soft a bit. Rather than hunting squirrels Daryl wants to go loot some houses instead. The last straw was drawn when Daryl hears a baby crying through the woods and sees two men fighting off several walkers while a mother and child cower in the car crying and praying. Immediately Daryl runs to assist them, while Merle doesn’t want to help people he doesn’t know. After a while Merle does join the fight, but then starts looting the “beaner’s” car. That is until Daryl puts his crossbow to Merle’s head and sends the family on their way. Daryl seems to have had enough and decides to go back to the prison. Merle is angry with him and they get into a fight where Merle rips Daryl’s shirt showing that their father was horribly abusive and that he has scars from years of whippings. It gives you the sense that this is why he is so protective over children. Merle hadn’t seen them before because he left while Daryl was still young. Merle does head to the prison with Daryl.
Carol and Axel are working on fortifying the fences when Axel is killed. The prison goes under attack and we find out what the Governor was up to. Carol has no choice but to take cover beneath Axel’s dead body, Hershel drops to the ground (he was out near the fence line talking to Rick), Carl starts shooting, and even Rick returns from insanity to join the firefight. Bullets fly from both sides and then the Governor stops shooting and shows off an evil grin. A truck rams through the prison gates and the back opens letting out a ton of walkers. The Governor laughs as the prison group has to turn their attention to the walkers. Michonne starts beheading them with her sword and Glenn shows back up to find the mess. The Dixons arrive in time to save Rick from walkers, even Merle was fighting for him.
