An epic glacier collapse was caught on film by one lucky amateur photographer recently. Christian Grosso was visiting the Perito Moreno in the Patagonia region of Argentina, and he managed to capture shots of an ice bridge falling. The Christian Science Monitor shared the details on Feb. 11.
Perito Moreno is one of the largest glaciers in Patagonia, and Christian Grosso caught the epic glacier collapse Saturday evening. There were a couple dozen others visiting the glacier at the time, and another bystander captured the ice bridge fall via video. The rupture was considered relatively minor compared to some events that have happened at the spot previously, however.
While the photo may be worth a thousand words, the video shared by Our Amazing Planet of the epic glacier collapse is absolutely breathtaking. That is the type of moment that one could never plan to find, but the memory will stick with those present for quite some time. Though the water levels can rise severely and cause more catastrophic ruptures than what happened this past weekend, the event caught by Christian Grosso is certainly a stunning event.
