The Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival doesn't begin until March 6, but if you visit now, you can get a sneak peek at one of the elements that's new for this year. Click the video toward the bottom of this article to see the playground that's themed to Disney's upcoming "Oz the Great and Powerful" movie.
The Walt Disney World playground is a kids' delight, with play equipment for running off excess energy, carnival games geared to youngsters, Oz-themed photo opportunities (including the wizard's balloon), and of course all the gorgeous landscaping for which the festival is famous.
The playground is just one small element of the many new things debuting at the Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival in 2013. Perhaps the most exciting is the addition of food and beverage booths around World Showcase serving up special delicacies for the festival. Bring your appetite and allow some extra time to sample your way around the World, much as you might do at the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival later in the year.
You'll also get to see new topiaries, some of which will be lit up at night for a unique viewing experience. This year, an old favorite also got a transformation: Bambi's butterfly garden is now themed to Pixie Hollow.
Be sure to allow a full day at Epcot if you visit Walt Disney World during the festival, and be prepared for the increased crowds. You always need to reserve enough time in your schedule to enjoy the gardens and topiaries, take photos, shop for souvenirs, and perhaps even catch a presentation, but in 2013 you need to add in wait time in the lines that are sure to develop at the new food booths.
