Entry deadlines are fast approaching for state tournaments conducted by the Florida State Bowling Association and the Florida State Women's USBC Bowling Association, so prospective entrants should be finalizing their plans to compete.

The FSBA's 80th annual championship tournament will be conducted in Orlando beginning on the weekend of April 12-13, and the women's state tourney will begin in Fort Myers on the weekend of May 3-4.

FSBA state tourney information

The Florida State Bowling Association's compeitition will be held at one bowling center -- the 80-lane Boardwalk Entertainment Center in Orlando -- for the first time in history.

After two weekends of action (April 12-13 and April 19-20), there will be two idle weekends (April 26-27 and May 3-4) before the action resumes on May 10-11. The two-weekend break is due to the USBC Convention and the Special Olympics, an event that completely fills the Boardwalk center.

Entry fee is $25 per person per event, with optional all-events at $5. In addition, optional scratch competition is available at $10 per event, plus $5 all-events, but those competing for scratch prizes must also enter the handicap (90 percent of 240) events.

On each tournament date, five-player team squads will be at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., and singles and doubles will begin at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Entrants may bowl only once in doubles and singles, but multiple participation is permitted in team event, provided that no more than three members of a team bowl together on a subsequent squad.

All entries must be submitted no later than March 31, and all pertinent information and rules can be found on the official entry blanks, available at most Florida bowling centers. In addition, you may view or download an entry blank by clicking here.

Women's state tournament to be conducted in Fort Myers

The Florida State USBC Women's Bowling Association's tournament will be held in Fort Myers, beginning May 3-4, and after taking May 10-11 off for Mother's Day weekend, action will continue for four subsequent weekends, ending June 7-8.

The four-player team event will take place at Bowland Cape Coral Lanes, and the singles and doubles events will be hosted by Pin Street at Fort Myers.

All tournament entrants must be a current member of a local USBC association and the Florida women's association, or they must have or purchase a current USBC unattached membership card.

Entry fee is $25 per woman per event, plus optional scratch and handicap (100 percent of 220) all-events available at $5 each. In addition, participants can enter optional scratch competition in team, singles and doubles for an additional $5 per event. With the first entry deadline (Feb. 1) having passed, entries submitted prior to the final deadline (March 1) will require an additional $20 late fee assessment.

Competition will be in one division, and squads will begin at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on each tournament date, with bowlers able to enter either team or singles-doubles on any of the squads.
