According to a Feb. 7 report from Badass Digest, someone at Entertainment Weekly might have accidentally revealed the unknown role of Benedict Cumberbatch’s villainous character in “Star Trek Into Darkness.”
Director J.J. Abrams has been pretty good keeping Cumerbatch’s role a complete secret, which has had many “Star Trek” fans speculate that there might be more to the character. Cumberbatch is currently listed as playing “John Harrison.”
WARNING: Possible spoilers follow.
While it’s not confirmed by Abrams, it looks like the people at Entertainment Weekly know the secret, as seen in this screenshot. Earlier today, the magazine’s website showed a preview of its upcoming issue, which has two separate “Star Trek” collector’s covers with the title “Voyage into the new ‘Star Trek.’” One shows Kirk and Spock, while the other shows Kirk and John Harrison. But the website said it was “Kirk & Khan.” It is uncertain if this was an error because of poor research, or if someone might have released the secret on accident. The title has since been changed, but not before fans went to message boards to share their thoughts. The film’s IMDb page even has Cumberbatch rumored as playing Khan.
Do you think Cumberbatch is actually playing Khan, or was this just a mistake on Entertainment Weekly’s part? Share your thoughts below.
