Sometimes friendships can develop from the oddest origins. Take the 2011 US adaptation of the 2007 Australian television sit. Com. 'Wilfred,' which starts off with severely depressed and lonely ex-lawyer Ryan Newman, Elijah Wood', who finds himself seeing his neighbor's dog Wilfred, Jason Gann, (who plays the canine in both versions), as an actual man wearing a dog suit with an Australian accent that only he can see and communicate with in this form.
The show follows Ryan about his everyday life with Wilfred coming by rather frequently and listens to Ryan's problems and then offer his version of a solution (which, more often than not, involves smoking weed and/or drinking beer). In addition to the illicit services, the pooch-man offers advice and stratagems for dealing with situations as he would (remember, he's a dog).
The series has a number of celebrity guest appearances and supporting parts including Rob Riggle, Dwight Yoakam, Eric Stoltz and Robin Williams who help add diversity to the story and surprising events.
The Aussie version is still running and, as long as Peter Jackson doesn't decide to do a “Lord of The Rings - Gollum's Revenge” or otherwise convince Elijah Wood to depart, it looks like our version will continue as well.
