Entertaining the kids during a flight delay

You have managed to get the entire family ready to head out on a spring break vacation. You've organized every detail of the trip. The kids are excited for the flight. You were able to get everyone through security and to the gate with what you thought was an hour to spare. Turns out, it's a couple of hours. The flight is delayed.

Relax. You're on vacation and there is absolutely nothing you can do to change the status of your flight, no matter how many times you ask the ticket agent for an update. Worried the kids will get fussy? Nip it in the bud before it happens. There are plenty of things to entertain kids in an airport beginning with the endless airplanes landing and taking off.

If you are stuck, awaiting your departure in General Mitchell International Airport here in Milwaukee, there is a children's play area in concourse D. This is a great area to allow the kids to burn some energy before confining them to a seatbelt for a few hours. Many of the larger airports have a children's area. Just ask any airport personnel.

The Mitchell Gallery of Flight is also a great place to take the kids. Located on the concession level of the airport near concourse C, this museum could educate the whole family a bit on the history of aviation.

On the walk to and from your gate, point out all the artwork throughout the airport. Make sure the kids look up above them at the many colorful artistic pieces hanging from the ceilings as well as below their feet at the numerous mosaics that highlight the floors.

Enjoy yourself and your family but do keep an eye on the clock and the flight monitor. You don't want to wander too far from your gate for too long encase there is a sudden adjustment to your delayed flight.
