Currently on stage at Players Club of Swarthmore (PCS) is a lively, humorous production of Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp.

Co-directors Trudy Graboyes and Tracie Lango have put together an entertaining production of Michele Vacca's show for children and their parents, with welcome physical comedy aspects and engaging special effects.

This production is based in part on the original story of Aladdin, as retold by Antoine Galland, who heard it from an Arab Syrian storyteller from Aleppo (according to Wikipedia). Most people are not familiar with the original tale, which is actually based in China and which was created before the 1700’s.

Audience members will particularly enjoy Carl Heyde as the evil, but not too frightening Magician; Brittany Adams’ comedic timing as Marizaydah; and Damion Williams’ interpretation of a very easygoing and joyful Genie. Williams in particular brings a spark to the stage.

The next Children's Theater production at PCS will be Rapunzel (April 27 - May 7). On the main stage through tomorrow night is I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change. Other upcoming productions at PCS are The View from Here (March 2-17), Over the River and Through the Woods (March 16-31) and Children of Eden (April 20 - May 12).
