December 30, 2011—The Associated Press has bestowed some year-end kudos on singer Lady Gaga. The news site has named her “Entertainer of the Year” for 2011. Lady Gaga has reportedly responded to the accolade by saying that she is both “humbled and honored” at the AP's recognition of her.

Entertainer of the Year for 2011
It was a close call for Lady Gaga. The late Steve Jobs nearly had the honor, but was three votes shy of winning. Some other notables also made the ballot list. Taylor Swift, Adele and the cast of Harry Potter, who received a nod for the SAG awards. In the recent past, the award has gone to Taylor Swift and Betty White.
News organizations that had AP membership were permitted to vote, and in total 135 vote ballots made it back to the AP. The question put forth to these organizations was to name the person that they felt had the most influence on entertainment and culture for the year.
The year has passed by like a whirlwind for singer Lady Gaga. She became Forbes' highest grossing female musician of 2011, paid a visit to the White House, did a stint on Saturday Night Live and has even been parodied by Weird Al—a definite sign that she's made it.
She'll end the year in as big of a blast as she started—helping New York ring in the New Year at Dick Clark's Rockin' Eve.
