Ducks will float their way across "Alice's Pond" in Winter Park this weekend in a fun race to raise funds for the Mead Botanical Garden's Young Naturalist Summer Camp and education programs. The Great Duck Derby will take place at Mead Botanical Gardens from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2014.
The event opens with a "Quacktacular Sing-a-long" and Duck Mascot Meet and Greet.
The little rubber ducks can be adopted for $5.00 each or a flock of 5 can be adopted for $20.00. Duck adoptions are available the day of the races if not purchased in advance. They will be entered into the races to win prizes.
Admission to the event and the variety of family friendly activities are free due to the generous donations from sponsors and volunteers. The Duck Derby day family activities include:
- Opening Celebration/Central Florida Community Arts Sing-a-long
- "Duck-o-ration" (duck painting)
- Mr. Richard Kid's Music
- Hay Rides
- Face Painting
- Bounce House
- Central Florida Zoo Animal Encounters
- Duck races
The park is a beautiful location to spread a blanket and have a picnic lunch, stroll the paths along the creek and enjoy the many varieties of plants and animals in this urban oasis. Relax while admiring the lovely camellia garden or explore the wonders of the the butterfly garden.
