As the summer gets underway, why not keep boredom at bay for your kids by finding ways to get them active and learning this summer? One way you can do that is to teach your children to cook or by letting others teach them to cook.

If your child is interested in more advanced cooking techniques or just wants to cook with his or her friends, you can enroll them in one of the many cooking camps and classes that are designed just for kids. There are several in the Houston area this summer. Below are just a few:

Check out Schakolad Chocolate Factory - Katy, TX for a summer camp that lasts for three days from July 7 through 9. Each day kids get to make their own chocolate-covered creations for two hours. They will also get to take home their treats – if they haven't eaten them already. Call the Katy location of the Schakolad Chocolate Factory at (832) 321-3580 for more information or to register.

Chefs 2B in Humble has several weeks of summer camps available at which your child can learn to cook. Camps are offered weekly this summer until the week of August 4. If you are interested in signing up your child for this camp or want more information, contact Chefs 2B at (281) 359-2433 or email:

Recipe 4 Success offers a cooking camp with a healthy twist. In this camp, which is offered in the Museum District, teaches children about how to grow, plan and prepare healthy meals. The final session for the summer is July 14 through 18, but there are also camps in the weeks leading up to that date. Children ages 8 through 11 get to work with professional chefs as they learn about making the most of their food. The cost is $350 per child for this all-day camp, but that includes the cost of the food the campers make. For more information about the camp, contact Recipe4Success at:
