Enrique Iglesias performed on the stage of American Idol on Thursday night in front of millions watching the elimination show. Even though he was a featured entertainer, he doesn’t think he would be a good contestant for the show. In fact, he told George Lopez on Lopez Tonight last night that he thought he would do ‘horrible’ on the show if he had to perform week after week.
“I would be extremely nervous. I don't know how they do it,” explained Enrique Iglesias. “These kids deserve a lot of credit. Think about it as it is the biggest show in the US.”
The performer talked about the challenge of being rushed on stage and having the opportunity to be part of a show that 25 million people are watching yet still don’t have all the skills a season performer would have. In the rush of it all there are so many expectations of the competition that are behind the scenes and fans don’t see.
“You have to perform every single night. You have to do songs that you probably don't feel comfortable with,” said Enrique Iglesias. “Everyone has their own way of singing. It is extremely difficult.”
Enrique Iglesias’ road to success was slightly more organic. Borrowing $1,700 from his nanny the superstar made a demo tape with two songs to share with music executives. One of the songs was in English, the other in Spanish. The rest, as they would say, is history. Asked about the nanny who loaned him money, Iglesias said she took care of him for the first 20 years of his life and that he is taking care of her for the rest of his life.
Take a look at the video clip of Enrique Iglesias talking American Idol. It sounds like he will always be a guest at the popular reality show and admires the contestants.
