Alderac Entertainment Group's Legend of the Five Rings (4th Edition): The Great Clans was recently nominated for an ENnie, an annual fan-based celebration of excellence in tabletop roleplaying gaming. Voting begins on Friday, July 20 and runs to Sunday, July 29. I recently spoke with Todd C. Rowland of AEG to find out why fans should consider Legend of the Five Rings: The Great Clans for Best Interior Art.
Michael Tresca (MT): Tell us about your company.
Todd Rowland (TR): Alderac Entertainment Group (AEG) has been the publisher of the Legend of the Five Rings RPG for over a decade, now in it's fourth edition. AEG also published the original Spycraft RPG and 7th Sea. AEG also produces many award-winning games such as the L5R CCG, Thunderstone: Advance, Nightfall, and Smash Up.
MT: Have you had any other products nominated for ENnies in the past?
TR: We have, including the L5R 4th Edition Core book, and other expansions.
MT: Why should voters vote for your product/site? What sets it apart?
TR: Well, we are nominated in the art category, and people have raved for years about the layout and design for the series. We have some of the best artists in the industry illustrating L5R, and their intimate knowledge of this extremely developed setting shines through in the art.
MT: What's next for your company?
TR: In the RPG realm, we are currently at work on a series of books on each of the Five Rings, the first called "The Book of Air". This focuses on the element of Air and all things related to it, such as archery, yari, music, flying creatures, air kami, air spells, monastic orders based on air, and of course the courts, where air is the primary focus of most courtiers. Following that will be "The Book of Earth" which focuses on the most stoic of elements. In the meantime at Gen Con however we are releasing The Second City boxed set, which includes three books and tons of extra materials to set a campaign in the Empire's first colonial city.
MT: Will you be at Gen Con? Where?
TR: We will be at Gen Con at booth 902. We will be hosting the "Welcome to The Second City" interactive LARP RPG event as well, which still has a few spots remaining if you want to try L5R!
MT: Where can we find out more about your company online?
TR: www.alderac.com and www.l5r.com
MT: Anything else you'd like to share?
TR: We are honored by the nomination and we hope to continue to produce quality products that players will enjoy!
