On Saturday, May 3, 2014 experience the Old West at its finest at the 8th Annual Campo-Lake Morena Roundup. Head to the backcountry town of Campo, located about an hour east of downtown San Diego, for a day of good old fashion, western-style, family fun!
Enjoy wild west gunfights and cowboy comedy, cheer on the kids as they compete in the popular mutton busting event, explore antique tractors and other machinery, listen to live country music, and root for your favorites during the barrel racing events. There will also be a Kids Zone with a petting corral and plenty of games and arts & crafts to keep them busy, a Miss Roundup Pageant, as well as shopping at a variety of merchandise booths and delicious food and drink. Watch as cowboys ride, rope, and brand cattle in the Ranch Branding Competition and if you're feeling lucky, register to toss some shoes in the Gene Martinez Memorial Horseshoe Tournament.
At High Noon, the Gaskill Brothers Reenactment Group, along with the Alpine Outlaws, will be reenacting the famous Campo Gunfight, as well as performing other periodic skits throughout the day. At the end of the Roundup, entire families can grab a stick horse (or bring their own) and compete in a family-friendly stick horse race!
Admission: $5 for adults and children age 6 and over. Location: Camp Lockett Event and Equestrian Facility, 799 Forrest Gate Rd., Campo, CA 91906 (about 12 miles off the I-8 Freeway).
