Enjoy the family friendly paradise of the Wildwood recreation site

What is it?

The Wildwood Recreation Site is a 600 acre recreational goldmine along the Salmon River, just west of Zigzag. The picturesque day use park offers several short hiking options that include a pair of .75 mile interpretive loops. One of these barrier free trails is also the beginning of the 8.5 mile 2640 foot elevation gain hike up Boulder Ridge.

Why Visit?

Visitors have a chance to explore natural stream and wetland ecosystems along the accessible Cascade Streamwatch and Wetland Boardwalk trails; which are frankly some of the best interpretive trail to be found in the region. Observe native fish in a unique underwater viewing chamber and stroll out onto three separate wildlife viewing platforms.

The site also offers family picnic areas that nestle into private forested coves or even sit alongside the river. Each private area featuring a barbecue, fire pit, and picnic table. There are several group shelters and playgrounds in addition to swimming and fishing areas. Groups can also take advantage of softball diamonds, basketball courts, volleyball courts and horseshoe pits.

Get there:

From Portland, take Highway 26 east towards Mt. Hood. Travel 15 miles past the town of Sandy and turn right into the signed Wildwood Recreation Site.

This sounds great. Near us in NJ is the wildwood boardwalk so it made me think of that though there are no trails and it's nothing like this : )
