The 37th annual Colorado Balloon Classic is currently taking place this weekend at Memorial Park in Colorado Springs. Due to winds above 10 Knots (11.5 mph) the balloons will not fly today, Sunday, September 1st. Pilots and spectators are praying for lighter winds tomorrow morning for the final launch at 7 a.m. of the Balloon Classic weekend.
Organized in 1977, the Balloon Classic is now the largest hot air balloon show in the Rocky Mountain region as well as the state of Colorado. Originally named the “America the Beautiful” Balloon Race the name was changed in 2003.
Want to experience this long running Colorado tradition? Load up family and friends in your RV and enjoy the convenience of your comfortable space while watching the colorful hot air balloons lift off and drift across the Front Range.
And don’t forget the Balloon Glo™ tonight. Layout of the balloons begins at 7:30 p.m. and inflation at 8 p.m. Pilots will inflate their balloons and light the burner for illumination. Visitors can visit each illuminated balloon and enjoy the food vendors and music.
