In Lynchburg, two favorite places to enjoy a summer day are the Sprayground water park at Riverside Park and the water fountain at Riverfront Park.
Sprayground is a ground-level water park which features water jets, buckets, spraying fish and lots of fun. Sprayground is open to the public daily from May through the end of September and it's all free.
The water fountain at Riverfront Park, also open seasonally, is perfect for younger kids. Like Sprayground, the free water fountain is ground level so all kids can enjoy the fun. There's no overhead water features so the little kids may like this park better.
Kids Cove is a great place for free indoor fun with kids. Located in Thomas Road Baptist Church on Candlers Mountain Road, there are climbing and play areas for kids up to age 10, including a special toddler area.
Spend the day at Splash Valley Water Park. Splash Valley, located at 7415 Wood Haven Road in Roanoke, features two 34-foot high enclosed water slides, a ground-level entry pool, a current river, a water playground for the kids with fountains, buckets, spraying jets and slides and a concession stand.
Splash Valley Water Park is open seasonally to the public and offers a discount for Roanoke County residents. Each Wednesday, Splash Valley features $6 admission for all ages, regardless of where you live.

At Peaks View Park, enjoy riding mountain bikes or playing disc golf. Ivy Creek Park offers nature trails, a fishing lake and canoe and kayak rentals on the weekend during summer.
