Are you a train enthusiast? Did you know that this Saturday is National Train Day? Two cities in the metro area are hosting events in honor of this day.
In honor of National Train Day, plan to visit the Lee’s Summit Historical Society Museum inside the Historic Train Depot, which is open from 10 a.m. to 4 pm. Saturday, May 12. It is located directly east of the Amtrak Station (www.leessummithistory.net/museum.html) at Second and Douglas Street. Across from the Historic Train Depot, Whistle Stop Coffee & Mercantile, 227 S.E. Main St., will offer all train passengers 10 percent off of their purchase on May 12. Or visit the Kansas City Northern Miniature Railroad located at 60th Street And Waukomis Drive, Kansas City, MO 64119. The railroad will be in operation on our half-mile oval of track. The Brush Creek & Western HO model railroad will be open to the public. Lionel 027 electric trains will be available for children to operate. Wooden toy trains will be on hand for the little folks to engineer around a tabletop layout. Passenger train models and memorabilia will be on hand for viewing.
