A new theater group, "Studio Theatre", debuts with the family friendly musical comedy You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, on Saturday, June 14, at 320 W. Seventh Street in Little Rock, Arkansas.
The Studio Theatre is an outgrowth of the Community Theatre of Little Rock. President of the board and musical director for this weekend’s performance, Bob Bidewell, stated the acting group has its own niche and is not competing with any of Little Rock’s other community theater groups.
Housed in the former location of Balfour Printing, volunteers have been renovating the space, removing cubicles, painting, and installing the theater’s 99 seats. They have created storage space and dressing rooms, as well as a piano bar in the front lobby. A beer and wine license is pending.
They Studio Theatre intends to put on five to six shows annually, while renting the space out to other community theater groups, and making it available for weddings, touring bands, and music and dance recitals.
You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown is based on Charles Schulz’ “Peanuts” comic strip. Clark Gesner adapted the strip and wrote the book, music and lyrics for the musical, which first performed in 1967.
Tickets are $18, with additional performances June 19-21, and June 26-28 at 5 p.m. For more information, call 501-374-2048.
