The DogRead yahoo group is a fabulous resource for dog lovers. Various dog authors take two or four week sessions appearing with the group to answer questions and share knowledge. It costs nothing to join and Dog Read members get discounts on any books or videos from the authors purchased through Dogwise.com.
From now until February 28th, the author working with the group is Monica Segal with her book K9 Kitchen - Your Dogs's Diet: The Truth Behind The Hype, 2nd edition. Monica is a well respected canine nutritionist who has a very realistic and down to earth approach to correctly feeding your dog. Unlike some nutritionist who swear by all commercial food, all raw food or all home cooked meals for your canine companion, Monica points out that there are dogs who will do well on all three versions of diets, and some combinations of the various diets.
Currently under discussion are various fish oils, salmon oil in pumps versus capsules and which joint supplements will work the best for senior dogs. Members of the list can pose questions and Monica will come on line and respond, so everyone can see the discussions. This is a valuable educational resource. On line discussions may touch on areas not covered directly in the authors' books, so you do get extra benefits over just reading the books. In addition, if you have questions about something in the book or whether or not something is appropriate for your dog, you will get an answer directly "from the horse's mouth".
